I have mixed feelings about grizzlies. The only time I've encountered any was during a hike in Banff NP in Canada years ago. I was happy when they ran the other way. However, I've said for a long time that the most dangerous part of going hiking in the wilderness is the drive to and from the trailhead.

Your statement that they keep the elk in check is accurate. However, many hunters would prefer to do this themselves.
