Watch Wednesday showdowns through livestreaming or attending in person
Wednesday’s debate featuring candidates for the Kelso and Longview city councils will not be telecast on KLTV as planned earlier, but it will be live-streamed in real time.

The debate was one of two planned as part of a “Focus on Democracy” project sponsored by the Kelso-Longview Chamber of Commerce and the Cowlitz Civil Dialogue Project.
It was uncertain Monday afternoon whether the telecast for the second debate, schedule for Oct. 11, will take place.
The live debates will start at 7 p.m. in Lower Columbia College’s Rose Center. The public is encouraged to attend in person. The debates also will feature live polling.
Admission to the debates is free and open to all.
Wednesday’s telecast was cancelled because of a technical problem with KTLV’s mobile broadcast van.
Candidates will square off against their opponent in half-hour mini debates. Each candidate will be given two minutes to answer a question and 30 seconds for a rebuttal.

* Kelso Council Position 4, Jim Hill and Aaron Bunn
* Longview Council Position 2, Ramona Leber and Keith Young

Those candidates that pretend to be "conservative" will be ideologically driven to blame victims and show little compassion. They will favor law and order "solutions", seldom considering carrots rather than sticks as motivation. As to luck, I had no control over the circumstances of my birth. As a white male, born to a family that suffered little in the Great Depression. My circumstances were favorable and my path was barrier free. As long as I wasn't fatally stupid, I would do OK. I have had a good life. Others haven't been so lucky. A humane society would show empathy towards those with less fortunate circumstances. Favor the candidates with empathy. Please.
