Boudreau is in Halvorson’s hip pocket. Watch Spencer at council meetings, how he looks to Halvorson for guidance, nodding like a 5 year old to his daddy. Get Boudreau out of office and we have half the problem solved.
Their response is sophomoric and an affront to the community and the homeless; people don't choose to be homeless. It is not a joyful event. There are a myriad of reasons for this situation and to mock them is short sighted. These people have no business calling themselves public servants.
Thank you Andre for another insightful and to the point piece. This stunt was in fact childish, lacking in any kindness or compassion.
I hope these two people never face the issue our less fortunate souls face. And should they, I sincerely hope they will be better treated, less hated.
I have tried to live my life according to two biblical teaching, Proverbs 19:17 and Galatians 6:2. I hope these two will read these teachings---they might learn something, might even change for the better.
Most people in the community has known for years Member Harvey harassment of me, defamed me, tried to intimidate me. Mostly I ignored his immature rants but must admit, occasionally taken my shot at him, verbally of course.
The problem with folks like Harvey is they are prone to bullying. The other thing about bully's is how frustrated they become when they encounter someone like me. I fear no man's verbal assault especially one who hides behind his keyboard rather then face me directly.
Harvey has attacked others on my Council and City Manager Hamilton as well. But his attacks on Member Lisa Alexander were the most cruel and heinous I've even seen perpetrated on another fellow Council Member.
Lisa is a good and decent soul and undeserving of the treatment she endured. And her entire family as well. And why, simply because Harvey speculated Lisa might also run for County Commissioner last year and he wanted her damaged. Thats the rumor at least, but you know, just maybe true. Ya'll can draw your own conclusions.
As to Harveys dispute with Kelso Senior assn and the good folks of Food For Change, not to mention my City Council, it was based on erroneous information that came from a employee of Family
If Erik Halvorson and Keenan Harvey want to pretend their stunt was an act of civil disobedience, they need to experience the full consequences of their illegal act. City Manager Wills was unambiguously clear: “Structures such as tents, makeshift shelters, or attachments to trees or park features are not allowed…When laws are broken, our officers will act.”
Prove it then. Arrest and prosecute Messrs. Halvorson and Harvey for misdemeanor violation(s) of LMC 7.29. Otherwise, they are simply providing proof to future defendants charged with unlawful camping that the law is being selectively enforced. I’m sure defense and civil rights attorneys will eat well in Longview.
It also appears lost on these two elected officials how they are essentially mocking ~themselves~ considering they are each empowered through the powers of their respective offices to act on this complex issue. Heaven forbid either of them show a scintilla of leadership and jointly spearhead an effort to do ~anything~ productive on this complex subject. Establish a safe parking area? Build more HOPE Village type communities? Demand their miserly buddies at the BOCC distribute the funds they are just sitting on? Hold the 19th District Delegation accountable for perennially failing to deliver the resources their communities desperately need?
Instead, we’re going to jail these mentally and physically ~injured~ people in a facility that is not designed for rehabilitation AND at a cost to taxpayers approximately twice as much as therapeutic options like rapid/emergency housing and inpatient treatment.
There’s nothing conservative about this tired and failed approach. There’s nothing Christian about it either. If Erik Halvorson and Keenan Harvey aren’t willing (or able) to help ~all~ the people they swore to uphold, they need to do the honorable thing and step aside to give someone else a chance.
But they cannot be allowed to deliberately make the situation worse by harming their most vulnerable constituents while needlessly sticking it to taxpayers. That’s cruel and inane. You might even say it’s tyrannical.

Boudreau should grow up on his own time, not while he's serving Longview.

Spot-on analysis, Andre! Thanks for seeing through the "satire" ploy, and thanks for telling the truth!
