I am still waiting for my grocery prices to go down and for the Ukraine war to end. That is not happening. That was an intentional false promise that was imo intended to get votes and undermine the faith in the US government institutions (now being decimated by him and co-President Musk).

Once again farmers and other industries will ask for a handout (I should say, even more subsidies). Will Musk and the billionaires pay up? No, they get a cut because they "create jobs" and are great innovators (so the story goes).

The tariffs are paid by people, not foreign governments. The hastily enacted tariffs will hurt us ... and those who voted for the current administration will start seeing this "winning" strategy. We need informed voters! People that will take their civic duty seriously and not just say "it does not matter." It does, there is an election in two years and his rule by executive order has to end. Those in WA that look the other way or seek to further appease him and not serve the people have no business in a leadership position.

I just learned a lot about trade, tariffs, and the port’s involvement in moving commodities. Mr. Stepankowski is a great reporter and educator.

What do the 19th district state representatives and senator think of Trump’s tariffs and looming trade war? Didn’t see any attempt to contact them. Rep. Walsh is the Republican Party Chair. Are they going to do something or just silently assent? It’s wishful thinking that the lower Columbia traders will be exempted. There is no one in Trump’s circle this time who will care one bit about local fallout. The rest of the world has no choice but to unite against Trump (the United States).

Until Rep. Walsh speaks up, one would assume he is behind Trump 100%.

I hear crickets on the federal and state GOP side. You would think that they would be out with their pitchforks, torches and ARs demanding push back. The tax cuts will not benefit the 99% of 19th district citizens.

Cowlitz County voters voted overwhelmingly for President Trump, who campaigned promising a trade war. These "Wars" are known by economist that study trade as "negative sum strategies ". That means everyone loses. I know of no empirical exceptions to this result. This testosterone driven policy has no rational basis.

The data you present is publically available information accessible to everyone. The president's supporters don't care. He looks like a tough guy. That image will come at a very high price.

Well, I hope some of the people who ignored the warning signs in favor of voting for their NOW cult leader and his elected president, are happy. If this situation isn't corrected and regular people don't start standing up, by the end of this year those people are going to be in a world of hurt right along with the people who had the good sense NOT to vote for a convicted felon. They don't seem to understand that we are all in this together and when Trump takes us down, he takes them down too. He's put Musk in charge of all things civil service, so if you don't know what that is, you might want to look it up because a whole lot of Trump voters rely on those programs. This coup is not gonna be fun for MAGAt's but if we are lucky our legal system will hold because I don't see MAGAt's in Congress putting a stop to this. They don't seem to understand either that a dictator who is leading a coup HAS NO USE FOR CONGRESS! Muskie doesn't need the House of Representative nor the Senate so they are about to be out of a job too. Call your representatives in Congress while you still can. Also, EO's (Executive Orders are NOT laws) are basically a wish list, they don't have the force of law behind them. What Trump is allowing Musk to do is, call your representatives, call every Republican in Congress and tell them to put a stop to this, if they had a spine they would already be doing it, Republicans and Democrats.

Trump owes nothing to anyone. He got in, avoided jail, and despite the talk of a third term, he will not. He now has the power and will do as he deems fit. What he said in the campaign trail is history. It is payback time in his mind and he will get he what he wants by threatening any GOP official opposing him with consequences (criminal or having a toady run against him).

The US Supreme Court gave him a get out of jail free card (everything he does is presumed to be in the course of his presidential duties). Now, he has gotten rid of oversight. In short, the most vulnerable people (most who voted for him) will not like what is coming.

In the next election, two years from now, they need to review the issues and understand that democracy is not a passive endeavor and that throwing their hands up serves to preserve the status quo.

In addition to his trade policies, he seems to use Neville ("Peace in our time.") Chamberlain as a model for negotiating with Putin. I just don't get it!!!
