Last night as I was putting the chickens to bed I noticed it was deadly quiet, not just that the wind wasn't blowing or that the traffic in the neighborhood had gotten where it was going. It was as if all the critters in nature had been frightened into silence by the war zone they were put through the night before on "independence day". Millions of dollars lit off by a match to celebrate "freedom"?, terrifying animals domestic and wild, not to mention the subconscious energy all that violence released. Think how many homeless people that utter waste could have housed! What other species in nature are driven to behavior "not normal" like these whales, as a result of our lack of empathy for the animal world around us?

A great point. I can’t understand the prodigious waste of fireworks.
